What semi-recent historical event has the biggest impact on our lives in the U.S. today and why?

Without adding the “why” part, my choices would be the cultural change in the 1960s, the availability of personal computers in the 1970s, the fall of communism in the late 1980s/early 1990s, and 9/11.
