Every time I have to give my state name over the phone or sometimes even when saying names of towns in Pennsylvania but outside Philadelphia, I usually say the state name as just the letters PA (pronouncing them ‘pee ay’). From what I understand, Canadians do this with British Columbia (BC / ‘bee see’), too. I know I can’t be the only one wondering this but it seems like a weird quirk we Pennsylvanians have. Is this common elsewhere?
