I’m from Los Angeles County. Which is to say, a suburb of L.A. (Don’t ask which one, I’m paranoid.) One time this guy blurted out “you’re from Wisconsin!” I said “no, I’m from here.” Because we were there. He became irate and accused me of lying. He just wouldn’t let it go.
If I was a Wisconsinite transplant, I wouldn’t be in the closet about it. Yeah, some people might see Wisconsin as ‘cheesy’, but hey.
