5 years with this guy, broke up once before. We got back together last year and things felt better than ever. Until one conflict (so small, literally just about going out or staying in for the night) ended in him needing space and time to think.

After a few weeks of conversations he admitted he didn’t know if he could commit to someone, that he feels like he needs to focus on work and bettering himself before he can be the partner I need. We were going to talk again but I just ended up texting him that I need more. I want commitment and he can’t give that to me. The relationship ends again.

A few days go by and he sends me a text asking to meet. When we meet he tells me basically the opposite of everything he’d said over the last few weeks. Said he wanted to commit, that he sees a future with me, that he doesn’t want to lose me and will put me first.

Friends and family are mad at him for jerking me around. I’m just wishing he’d said all this a month ago. What would y’all do? I love him and want it to work, but I don’t wanna get back into a relationship and end up here again.

  1. He’s just saying what you want to hear now. He’ll act more committed for a week or 2, then be telling you he’s not ready to committ again. The more you let him play with your head, the harder it’s going to be.

  2. I’d drop him because he is the living breathing definition of a red flag
