Pardon me for the weird question as I have bad social anxiety. More than half the people I see (especially at fast food restaurants) never say “thank you” or anything when someone hands them their order. Personally, I always say it as it comes off rude/disrespectful. But it seems the norm is not to say anything (or even smile). Why is that?
