I’ll preface this by saying I’m aware that it isn’t good to solely rely on alcohol to socialise, but I think it’s good to get over initial awkwardness.

I’ve always been a shy and awkward person and I often see people suggesting alcohol to help them become more open and talkative in social situations, and so I started drinking very occasionally when I first went to university. However, whenever I’ve drunk alcohol I’ve never experienced alcohol making me more social; I’m just as shy and awkward after a few drinks as I am sober. That’s not to say alcohol has no effect on me, as it makes me extremely tired and also affects my balance, but I never experience any of the disinhibiting effects that help people socialise.

Just wondering if anyone else has experienced this, as usually people don’t understand when I try and explain it to them.
