How can I become a leader in stead of a follower?

I’m currently in high school and I have a few issues socially. One of them being I tend to follow around the girls I’m friends with and I have a fear I’m referred to as a ‘minion.’ How can I be more of a leader? Like, one of those people that have people following **them.**
