What do you guys feel when someone tells you are “hot” or “handsome”? But you don’t see yourself like that.

  1. Well if a lady says it, I will take her word. I am generally not one who wants to fuck men, so I will take the word of an expert over my own.

  2. Best case? They’re hitting on me. Worst case? They’re patronizing me.

  3. I say thank you but don’t believe them. My girlfriend says it all the time and I don’t even believe her half the time because she’s so far out of my league.

  4. That they’re trying to scam me and is absolutescum. I’ve seen my reflection. I know that anybody calling me “handsome” is disingenuous as it can possibly be. And everybody other than my mom who has called me that has pretty blatantly tried to scam me shortly after that.

  5. I feel awkward, slightly embarrassed, and I want to deflect the attention as fast as possible.

  6. Of course you don’t see yourself that way, you’re not your type. Just say thank you.

  7. Lmao. I brush it off. I’m pretty generic…. At best.
It’s just niceties in my head, and will in general only drive out more insecurities.

Before when I was younger I was fit 6″ with a 6 pack, and had much more confidence. College 20 hit, broke up with a ltr and an abusive ex during COVID and lost a BFF due to drama. Kinda killed my self esteem.

I’m back down in weight with a dad bod and some excess skin and stretch marks. And just feel like I can’t stand out and that I’m invisible in the dating world. So anytime someone says that shit, I find it really hard to believe.

    But C’est la vie.

  8. I got told how great my smile is after I had lost about about 120 lbs.. I didn’t feel like I was being mocked or anything..it was just odd…didnt know how to respond so I just went on my way like a my sims npc.

  9. They’re definitely just trying to make me feel good even though they’re telling me something objectively false to do it. They want something from me. I will give it to them.

  10. I feel like im talking to an idiot if they think I’m hot. But that is being hypocritical as i find 90% (or more) girls I talk to absolutely gorgeous babes.

  11. I’ve been working in bars for a while, so whenever I hear compliments from women, I immediately assume they’re trying to get free drinks, and I’ll admit that it worked the first time. Outside of my job, I can’t remember the last time I got a compliment, doesn’t help that I do bar work so I don’t go out much when I’m off so I don’t interact with women in those situations hardly ever

  12. Can’t trust it. I’ll start to wonder what they’re trying to gain from lying to me.

  13. God damn it, they are up to something and I have too much shit to deal with.
