I have been long term unemployed. I had various issues from my early 20s, including mental breakdowns and addiction so my work life was horrid and I couldn’t settle into any job. I am trying to get back on track now. I know it’s an uphill battle, but I want to be successful for the remainder of my 30s so I can give myself a fighting chance financially into my 40s. I’m currently applying for various jobs and seeing what comes about. I have been invited for an interview next week for a stocktaker role. It’s nothing special but I need something for the time being. I need a job first and foremost, but what advice could you provide that I should be targeting for the end of this year and next year etc? What should I be looking to improve on over the 12 to 18 months to help put me in a better position moving forward?
I am open to upskilling, but I don’t know where to start. My interests are varied. I’ve considered maybe training to be a counsellor because I can empathise with people who are struggling with their mental health and other struggles, but apart from that I’m not so sure.
