Why do Americans Cheers the loudest when the national anthem sings about rockets and bombs?

Everytime I watch an American sport and hear the national anthem I always hear a loud cheer from the crowd when the anthem gets to the part about the rockets and the bombs. Seems kind of morbid that the biggest cheers usually come from this kind of act.
