I grew up in the United States, went to university/currently live in the UK. I am fairly active in a lacrosse and American Football club… and while neither are the most popular of clubs, I would say rugby club are extremely common and there is a club that consists of mainly people from my office.
I’d say neither club is really strictly about the sport… most people bring their families out to the games… if the kiddos play they play first and adults coach, then adults play. And usually there is a BBQ or trip to the pub afterwards. It’s a great way to make friends… I moved to London and immediately made friends through the London lacrosse club.
