I’ve just received a penalty notice from an employee of GWR for not having a ticket as I got onto the train. My reasoning was because I just got to the station as the train arrived. I was accepting of the penalty until I witnessed the gentleman’s colleague issue a ticket to a woman who also had no ticket upon boarding the train. Is this acceptable conduct and is it ground for me to appeal the penalty?
I should probably add that the guy spelt my name wrong on the ticket. Does change anything?
