Planning a city break with a friend and based on flights/when we want to go we’ve came up with a few places we would potentially like to visit

*Budapest, Munich, Amsterdam or Milan

I’m leaning towards Budapest and Munich. We’re most interested in sight seeing and good food. I’ve been to Amsterdamn many years ago but it was only for a day, would love to return and Milan I’m unsure about

Any thoughts/suggestions?

Thank you

  1. Budapest or Munich out of those 4. Milan is more a financial city from my own research so not a huge amount to see, and I’d take the opportunity to see somewhere new over Amsterdam.

  2. If you’re interested in good food and sightseeing then you should be picking Italy over the rest! I’d say Florence or Rome, not really that fussed with Milan. Budapest is lovely though and so is Germany. I’ve not been to Munich, but I have been to Bavaria for skiing and the views are absolutely breathtaking. As for Amsterdam, it’s not really known for it’s food!

  3. Can recommend both Budapest and Munich but Budapest would be my choice. A lot more centralised areas to see and do things.

  4. Out of your 4 choices, I’ve been to all but Milan and would recommend Budapest (Amsterdam was on a ferry so didn’t get enough time there and went to Munich to see a band so didn’t do much other than eat and drink)

We went to Budapest for the Xmas markets. But the best attraction was the outdoor thermal pools. Loved them!

  5. I’ve been to all four and I’d say either Budapest or Amsterdam. The other two I think 2 nights is enough time. I just returned from Amsterdam so maybe I’m biased, but we hired bikes and cycled outside of the city for two days and it was amazing. We were only there for 3 nights but we’re planning on going back and exploring further next time.

  6. I’d pick Budapest. It’s really beautiful and lots to see and do. I found Munich surprisingly boring, albeit with great food. I have been to a lot of Germany though so if you’ve not spent much time there you might see it through different eyes.

Amsterdam is fun but hotels are extremely expensive.

  7. Munich is good for the beers, most beer houses also do food, include mahousive pretzels

Budapest ive heard is good, not been myself yet, but on my list

Prague was a lovely city, but didnt spend enough time their to fully comment

Brussels is great for food and beer

  8. I like Amsterdam but you can also spend one of those days in Utrecht or The Hague to have some variety.

  9. I can only speak for the cities I’ve been to. Bilbao was a cool city, although I drunk most of the time, so don’t remember much.

Málaga was great! Beautiful city, plenty of museums and attractions, and some interesting day trips. I highly recommend Caminito del Rey.
