Phone etiquette when talking to people.

Say you’re at work having a quick look on your phone. Someone comes up to talk to you, what do you do with your phone? Keep it in your hand?

I always put it away so I can give the person my full attention, but apparently this looks suspicious, as if I am trying to hide something?

I even had a HR rep say “its ok you don’t need to shut off your phone”

I’m just doing what I think is polite, I’m not being paranoid or suspicious.

Should I just stay on my phone and turn my head next time?
