I was shocked when I learned that Peter Dinklage is an American and not British, thanks to Game of Thrones.

  1. I was surprised to find out Marcus Mumford, Anya Taylor-Joy, and Saoirse Ronan were all born in the United States and didn’t renounce their American citizenship when they were back home.

  2. Actual answer… Pro wrestler Chris Jericho. Being Canadian has always been a bit of his character but he was actually born in America.

  3. Queen Elizabeth II was actually born in Delco Pennsylvania . Her English accent wasn’t real but the royal family thought she’d garner more respect from the public if she put one on.

A little funny quip about her is that she was known as a huge birds fan. The general public always assumed that meant she was into watching and identifying different bird species. Actually she was a massive Eagles fan. It’s hard to find but they’re clips of her screaming “goooo biiiirds” in her private football watching chambers. You can hear a slight Delco accent come out.

She also had Wawa hoagies flown over twice a week.

  4. For some reason I had always assumed John Lithgow was British, I was surprised to learn that he was American.

  5. Lady Gaga

    Chrissie Hynde

(years ago, when the “Brass in Pocket” video came out, it had been filmed in the UK, and she and The Pretenders looked British to me. Recently saw a mini-series called “Pistol” (about the Sex Pistols) and Chrissie did spend time in the UK. So the British punk rock scene did have an influence on her (and on me, believing that she was a Brit).

  6. Daniel Davis (the actor who paid Niles on The Nanny) is, in fact, not British, but rather from Arkansas.

  7. Not super-famous, but Jennifer Ehle, who played Elizabeth Bennet in the 1995 adaptation of Pride and Prejudice.

  8. We are a country full of immigrants, I wouldn’t be surprised to learn anyone is an American. My answer is Gary Busey, I always thought he was from another planet.

  9. Jon Hamm. When I first became aware of him, he was doing all the Canadian promotions, I remember seeing him at the Olympics dressed in the Canadian outfit, etc. so naturally I just assumed that he was from there, but it turns out he’s from St. Louis. I guess I missed the joke or whatever that was all about.

  10. I loved Dinklage in Game of Thrones but I actually thought his accent was kind of bad.

  11. Not sure how famous he is today on his own, but Stewart Copeland, the former drummer of The Police (known for hits such as “Every Breath You Take” and “Roxanne”). The Police was a British band, as is its front man, Sting, so I assumed Copeland is British too. Nope, turns out he is American born and raised.

  12. Tosin Cole, he was born in the US till he was 8 and moved to the UK. So he’s a dual citizen.

  13. The Garden of Eden was in Jackson County, Missouri.

For my real answer- the band The Killers seem so incredibly British, but they are from Nevada.
