My mother gave me a name that is unisex but male leaning, and my dad had no say in it. I genuinely don’t know another woman with this name, so I would say it is male. After talking with my dad it turns out there was a name from his side of his family that he wanted to name me, and I am now due to change my name to that! I also considered just using my middle name but my mother used a nickname of an actual name for a middle and I dislike that too.
Would it be weird to a man that I have changed my name? It is free here and is a basic document signed by two people and then it’s done, so no financial concerns there. It just obviously doesn’t change my birth certificate etc, which might make it awkward to explain when dating or if he meets someone who knows me by my birth name.
Would I be expected to bring it up immediately or would it be something to mention when things get serious?
