In Ireland there are people who are known to have “the cure” in which they are believed to be able to cure sicknesses.
The cure is a secret prayer and a set of actions handed down through generations in families. There is a reverence about it. A person who has ‘the cure’ has a special gift.
This is still somewhat common in Ireland (well in County Tyrone where I’m from anyway).
Faith healer isn’t even what we call them here either, we would just say “Mary has the cure for warts” or whatever they are said to have the cure for.
