How would you respond/ how to move along with this conversation:
“Happy birthday!”
“My [loved one] passed away.”
“Oh, I’m sorry for your loss.”
***then idk what to say after sorry asides from asking what happened (if they were comfortable sharing)
Or a chipper “Helloo!” to get “I just [insert bad news]”
I have greeted someone with a Star Wars “May the Fourth be with you” and they gave me news that their significant other died in a tragic accident.
Over the years, it’s made me not want to greet people happily, more just a very collected and neutral greeting until I match their energy.
