So I just started dating “Peter”, as in brand new relationship, but I can’t help but wonder if it is something I want to or should continue. I have an uncle, brother in law, cousin in law, and child of a cousin ALL named Peter, some go by Pete. It’s been a family joke that there are too many and all of that, and I can’t help but agree sometimes. So should I let that affect my decision on dating this guy?

  1. Trust your gut instinct.

If it makes you feel very uncomfortable, it is fine not to have time to add another name to your collection.

I wouldn’t date a guy with the same name as my father or uncle.

  2. It’s a bit of a points system for me. It would definitely count against him, and it would feel weird. I wouldn’t throw away an otherwise good relationship because of it, but he’d be on a shorter leash than someone who had a name that didn’t have so many existing associations.
