How many jackets and outerwear should you own if you live in a cold country? Where are you and how many outerwear do you have?

  1. I’m from the UK, have family in Finland, and I live on the NE coast of the US. I have a lot of coats.

  2. I used to live in Rochester and then New York City. Rochester especially got windy and often into the negatives.

I had about 5 different coats, ranging from cold to arctic, in addition to hats, scarves, and a mask to cover my face below the eyes down past my neckline.

Then like 4 different jackets for milder weather.

Thinned out like half my closet when I moved to LA XD

  3. canada in a pretty dang cold province. i wear a long vintage down filled coat (i really prefer vintage canadian made coats because they are cheaper, higher quality and pretty warm) and then one wool coat that is a little less intense for warmer days! one coat is fine and if i’m feeling tired of looking the same everyday i just mix up my scarf/mitts/toque’s 🙂

  4. 8
    One nicer fancy winter coat
One winter coat for knock around
One heavy super low temp rated coat
    One medium nicer coat
    One medium knock around coat
    One light nicer jacket
    One light knock around jacket
Then you gotta make sure at least one of each it waterproof/wind proof for weather

  5. I am in Germany. And I have at least two per season. In winter the coat needs to keep me warm and dry. If I go somewhere by bike in winter it should not make ma sweat like crazy after 20 m, so that one is a bit thinner.

In spring and fall coats are lighter and keep the wind away. Of course a bit waterproof is also appropriated.

In Summer it is mainly about style. Sometimes I just put on a blazer or have a cardigan with me. It depends on the occasion and the outfit.

I guess in total I have around ten coats and outer wear.

  6. Scandinavian. One winter coat, one spring/fall jacket, one summer jacket. That’s all. If you’re skiing you’ll ofc need a ski jacket and pants, but otherwise you’re fine with just one coat/jacket per season.

  7. I live in Norway. Where I live it can be as cold as -15 C a normal Winter, and plenty of rain, and some snow.

It depends on *you*. How much time are you going to be outside? If it’s only when you get into and out of the car, one warm and water proof jacket will do. And is also the most practical in daily life, as you only have one jacket to take on/off.

If you’re going to walk outside, or ski, etc, then I recommend one shell jacket (thin, water proof) and then use several warm layers underneath (don’t forget wool especially closest to your body).

A down jacket is great if its particularly cold, or you’re going to sit still outside.

I have many, like 15? but only because I buy/get one and don’t get rid of the one I already have lol(several of them are 15 years old). That’s also including ALL my jackets, from nice ones for parties to denim summer jackets.

I have one shell jacket, I use it for long mountain hikes when it’s raining in the summer, and as outer layer in the winter if it’s snowing and I’m exercising. These jackets are *expensive* if you get a good one.

I have a couple of longer coats, one thicker ugly one great for daily life when it’s cold cold, one nicer thin one.

I also have a thick short jacket, bought it because it was cheap, but it is actually warm and I just love it.

And I have a set of rain coat and pants that are water proof (oil clothing as we call it, doesn’t breathe at all but is 100% water proof). Wanna stay dry? These are great. Though be careful to hike in it as it’ll get damp as hell under these clothes

    Outerwear:

Again, if you’re only going about daily life, maybe one pair of semi winter appropriate taller shoes, and a set of whatever it’s called the things that goes on your shoes to make sure you don’t fall on ice.

If you’re hiking, skiing etc, you need better shoes.

Same for hats, mittens, scarfs. Simple ones for daily life, more advanced ones for actual winter activities.

  8. Not a country, but i live in Ohio, USA. I own ten winter coats and probably 15 jackets all varying from almost coat to light windbreaker to raincoats. It gets pretty cold here and i like variety. My jackets for fall and spring are just as important as my winter coats.

    Edit- spelling

  9. I’m in Minnesota I have at least 6 winter coats. And many other jackets…

  10. I’m in Sydney Australia, sometimes it gets to 12 degrees! I start wearing coats at 20 degrees hahaha. I have a puffer jacket, 2 coats, 2 blazers, 2 cardigans, 2 rain coats

  11. I’m Canadian. I have a heavy duty coat for the -30 and below days, a medium winter coat, and a fall coat.

  12. Canada here. One heavy winter jacket, plus 2-3 variations ranging from light to fleece.

  13. I live in the UK it occasionally gets cold in the winter I own a 3 in 1 coat as it can be used in all weathers and use that as my day to day coat.I have a long wool coat which I use when I’m out on an evening and for funerals etc.I also have a couple of jackets for the summer and blazers. The 3 in 1 and wool coat was expensive but they will last a few years.

  14. I have three. A really fat and long winter coat, and semi long not so think one for walks and hikes, and a more elegant one when I go out.
