There was a recent video trend in Tiktok called the ‘Priceless Pancake’.
The video consists of a slideshow of pictures. It will first show a $1 pancake (pancake worth $1), then a $10 pancake, then a $100 pancake, $1000 pancake, 1 million dollar pancake and 1 billion dollar pancake. In the end, they will show a picture of a mother cooking a pancake and her young child looking at it and label it as a priceless pancake. The pictures seem to be AI-generated.
There are other similar videos whereby the pancake is replaced with other food items like waffle, cake, toast, pasta etc.
And they always show a picture of a family enjoying the meal together with the label ‘Priceless Waffle/Cake/Toast/Pasta etc.’
It’s like the video is trying to say indirectly that a person’s life is only meaningful and priceless if he has a spouse and children.
As a person who is choosing to be single my whole life, those videos hit hard. It makes me feel like I am trying to make my life meaningless by choosing not to have spouse or children. It makes me slightly worried whether I am taking a wrong decision to be single.
