For context, I (20F) have always been socially anxious and awkward around people. I have no friends at all and never made any throughout school. I focused on my studies and didn’t join any clubs as I was really shy. I am in community college now and lonely. I don’t want to spend the rest of my life being this way. I made a promise to myself this year to try to break out of my shell and learn how to talk to people.

I am in an honor society and I am planning to run for an officer position that forces me to talk in front of people. I have a tutoring job where I teach little kids reading and math, but they’re just kids. I need to learn how to talk to people my age.

What else should I do to get out of my shell? Is there anything that worked for you?
