In a street photograph video a woman said she spent 20 min on her eyeliner.
Firstly, can someone explain what makes that difficult ?
Secondly, what other things for makeup are also difficult to get right and may require lots of time?

Genuinely interested. I’m a dude btw:)

  1. Not only do you need an extremely steady hand to apply eyeliner, both of the wings length/thickness/angle also need to match.

  2. Eyeliner requires a pretty steady hand, no matter what method you use to put it on, it’s very easy to open your eye before it’s dry and smudge it on your eyelid, trying to get them even enough, especially when you’re doing very bold eyeliner, can be a hassle, sometimes it just fights against you and everything goes wrong. Personally my eyeliner usually takes me around 40 minutes, maybe longer if I go awhile without doing it. Lots of people struggle with eyelashes as well, and they’re something you need to work more quickly with because of the glue and it can be difficult to get them to lay flat, be close enough to your natural lashes without actually getting glue IN them, sometimes even if they look good they’ll poke you and you end up having to redo them anyway.

  3. For me it’s to control/stifle the sneeze and subsequent smudging of my freshly applied mascara when I do the powder application over makeup!

  4. Getting my winged eyeliner to look even/ match each other. Also trying to get my waterline without stabbing myself in the eye.
