Do you find that people make their hometown or state their entire personality?

I’m talking about the people who say “I’m from jersey, I’m from Brooklyn, I’m from long island we don’t do this or that”. “I’m from the bronx, I’m from southside Chicago you don’t wanna fuck with me”. Is it common for people to make where they are from their entire personality sometimes?
