I understand sometimes kids have after school practice, or my wife has a work function, and it’s not possible, but do you make an effort to have a meal together?

I (M54) grew up where we always had dinner together, and now that I have a family, we do the same when we can. Some of my kids are in college but come home every 4-6 weeks. If they have dinner plans with friends, that’s perfectly cool. But if we are all home for dinner, we sit at the table together.

But my daughter’s boyfriend’s family rarely have a meal together, even when they are all home. Even the 8 and 9 yr old are allowed to take their dinner plate to their room, and the parents will sit on the couch and eat dinner. I think this is more common than not.

Just wondering your thoughts.
