Me (19F) and my boyfriend (18M) have been together for 9 months.
Around me, his jokes are normal and funny.
But suddenly when I bring him around my friends I get super embarassed because suddenly his jokes become pretty offensive and unfunny. For example, like the random “gay” jokes every 5 seconds. Like I get the worst first-hand embarrassment for being associated and second-hand embarrassment because of my friend’s awkward laughs. Like he gets so over dramatically like “trying to be funny” with the jokes. And most of the time they’re super offensive.
I’ve tried talking to him about it once. Be got super sad and felt attacked because he thought I was telling him he was “too much”. Which yes, his jokes can be… but he just doesn’t understand that.
I know I’m not holding his “true personality” back because he doesn’t act like that when he’s with me alone.
What can I do to help him understand? Should I let him keep being him?
TLDR; my boyfriend suddenly makes unfunny offensive every 5 seconds when I bring him around my friends but not when he’s alone with me
