In January we first saw food being nibbled and things being knocked over and eventually seeing the rat itself, we found a couple holes around the house that we blocked up and we had to get a whole new back door because it had eaten through the entire bottom of it, and we moved all of our food items from
the cupboards and worktop into thick lockable tubs.
This lasted for 2 weeks before we found out it died in the wardrobe in the spare bedroom, guts blown all on some antique frabric. Stunk like hell but we removed it and buried it in the garden and thought that was it, but then a couple of weeks later (mid February) we found one of the food tubs had been bitten open and everything in it destroyed, and since then we’ve been finding more holes, droppings and bite marks over all the empty cupboards and shelves. They’re not just sticking to the kitchen either, we’ve seen them running in the living room and bathroom as well, they knock over so much that each morning we don’t know what we’ll find.
We’ve had the rat man out 7 times, each time he’s just placed poison traps in some of the holes and now one of them is dead under the kitchen floor because I can smell it, but we can still hear them at night and they’ve moved up to the first floor where the bedrooms are now.
We don’t know what else we can do, we’d already moved all the food into the fridge weeks ago so there’s nothing for them to eat, and we’ve blocked every hole we can find but if they’re already in here what can we do? It keeps me awake at night hearing their biting and scratching, I’m genuinely going mad.
