The first one that comes to mind is Sex/Life
For young people, Degrassi. Not just women though, but it covers such a wide range of societal issues it’s insane
Life and beth was wildly relatable
Raw
The Lost Daughter
The Novice
I Am Not Okay With This (tv series)
Hatching – I just finished this gross and wild body horror film and I’m not quite sure I have a great grasp on it yet, but it does a pretty good job of dissecting generational trauma at the hands of the mother.
Hidden Figures, Handmaid’s Tale.
Old one but good. The Burning Bed (1984)
The Great, it touches on having to put on a happy smiling face and act how others want you to, despite how unhappy you might be and the pain you may be going through, it was really relatable for me.
30 Rock
“Promising Young Woman.” I wish it could be mandatory viewing. It comprehensively deconstructs rape culture, self-professed “nice guys”, and internalized misogyny. It addresses what a lot of women understand as fact: the promise of men is more important than the lives of women.
The First Lady. It’s a Showtime series about a few of the women that were integral to American politics but were mostly known as the president’s wife. It shows their strengths, kindness, anger, persistence, and dynamism.
Fleabag – mental health, dysfunctional family, friendship, death, love, sex.
Kind of a different take, but I thought Anne With an E did a great job revealing a lot of the “traditional” ways women were viewed and expected to behave in society that still ripple on and play out to this day
Handmaids Tale
Roar.
Based on a book of short stories by Cecelia Ahern, this genre-bending anthology series weaves together eight darkly comedic feminist fables that take unexpected approaches to subjects like gender roles, autonomy and identity.
Dollface, YellowJackets, Broad City, Why Women Kill, Big Little Lies
Law & Order SVU
This show not only does a great job approaching important issues, they actually have respected the growth of the females characters.
Handmaids Tale came first to mind
Veronica Mars
Crazy Ex Girlfriend
i havent seen the whole thing but i saw some clips about domestic abuse from the show “euphoria” that really hit close to home. i should probably watch the rest of the show.
