How can I cope with an angry driver as a passenger?

As a driver, I have to try to not let others’ erratic and dangerous driving instantly affect my mood since driving is a way of life in the US and there are angry maniacs (dangerous drivers who will attack you) on the road. Driving is a privilege and one I take seriously.

However, it’s very common for me to be a passenger and the driver will internally (inside the car) verbally become angry at stupid drivers on the road. They won’t flip them off or anything but yell at them or comment negatively at them.

To me, it ruins the nice mood we might be having or the comments will interrupt what one another may be saying which in turns makes me angry. It’s a vicious cycle that I’m trying to figure out.

My dad is this way, impeded my learning to drive and made me scared of highways until very recently.
