What’s the difference between a spouse and a roommate you’re romantically involved with?

I recently got married to my live-in boyfriend (now spouse) which has been rad as hell. But I’m not seeing much of a difference from when we were just romance-roomies other than the nifty bank account we use to pay rent, and the lack of residual religious guilt whenever we bang.
