Any recommendations? I feel like I’m looking extra old lately. It’s probably too late, but I figured I’d try. Moisturizer? Daily sunscreen that doesn’t feel like sunscreen? Any specific brands / products?

Edit: I do use sunscreen when outside. Also looking for any daily moisturizers with sunscreen in them that don’t have that slimy feel.

  1. Kiehl’s for men is pretty good. Been my go to. Wife said it makes a difference

  2. There is no single answer to this question as every person’s skin is different and will require different products. However, some general tips for daily skincare for a 40 something white guy would be to use a gentle cleanser, moisturize regularly, and use sunscreen when outdoors.

  3. My go to is Kiehls. They have a great lineup for men. To start I reco:

    Mens Facial Fuel face wash.
Pwerful Strength line reducing under eye serum.
Powerful Strength line reducing serum (for rest of face).
    Mens Facial fuel Moisturizer.
(Apply creams in the order listed).

    Good luck!

  4. I believe in taking care of myself, and a balanced diet and a rigorous exercise routine. In the morning, if my face is a little puffy, I’ll put on an ice pack while doing my stomach crunches. I can do a thousand now. After I remove the ice pack, I use a deep pore cleanser lotion. In the shower, I use a water activated gel cleanser. Then a honey almond body scrub. And on the face, an exfoliating gel scrub. Then apply an herb mint facial mask, which I leave on for 10 minutes while I prepare the rest of my routine. I always use an aftershave lotion with little or no alcohol, because alcohol dries your face out and makes you look older. Then moisturizer, then an anti-aging eye balm followed by a final moisturizing protective lotion.

  5. Grab the $4 Trader Joe’s enrich moisturizing face lotion with spf 15. It’s lightweight and perfect for putting on quick before you leave the house or every morning.

  6. First, lots of water and clean diet. Second is sunscreen, then reapply sunscreen when needed. Good face wash at night with a light lotion or cream lotion depending on your face. Hydrating or exfoliating face mask 2 x week to give your skin a boost in hydration. Go to dermatologist and get a retinal cream prescription. Everything else is trash and heavy marketing to get you to consume. Vitamin C products brighten your face, but if you are in the sun a lot it may do the reverse. Go to the skincareaddition thread and look at popular products for your skin type and climate type.

  7. You could use Olay daily moisturizer with spf 15. It’s light and easy to find at the drug store. That’s a simple start. And then a gentle cleanser like cetaphil if your skin is dry. Don’t worry so much if it’s marketed to men or not. The suggestion of a retinol is good, just remember that it can be drying to the skin and causes sun sensitivity.

  8. My girl turned me over to raw aloe after I had some tags chopped off my skin. The marks are going away and my skin has never been smoother.

  9. Anything from cerave and cetaphil. I mix Clinique gel moisturizer and cetaphil redness relieving night cream together in the morning before a tinted serum. In the evening, I use cereve skin renewing night cream.

  10. I’m a chick, not a guy but I’m incredibly nosy so here we are. I would stress that good daily skincare products are products you will actually want to use everyday! I don’t use masks because I always forget about it snd it takes so much time so I spend more on toners/creams, stuff like that.

    – Spf will probably be the most important thing to help with anti-aging. Unfortunately you won’t get the spf protection you need from a moisturiser that’s mixed with spf. You’d have to chuck more on to get the right protection. It might actually be better to buy an spf made for the face and then apply that after your moisturiser. Idk if you’re in Australia but I like mecca’s to save face moisturiser. Nice scent, no white tint, non greasy. I’ve heard that LRP dry touch is good, japanese sunscreens are heaps good too maybe check out some skincare subs. There’s always tons of threads on sunscreen.

    – if you want to use sunscreen daily you’ll need to make sure to wash your face at the end of every day to get it off and prevent buildup. I find that a double cleanse is required to get everything off fully. I like clinique’s take the day off balm and then follow up with cetaphil. Don’t use muji’s oil cleanser, the bottle is fucked, my bottle and my sister’s bottle is constantly leaking oil out now ugh.

    – I like neutrogena’s hydroboost moisturiser range. Not too expensive and pretty bare bones. I use the gel version in summer and the night concentrate as a day+night cream in winter. Non-greasy, sinks in fast!

    – For something more specific with helping with lines/wrinkles retinol/vit A will help. Google what you can before you start using it though. You’ll need to start at a low ret% at first then build up. I’m currently using Frank body’s retinol serum and I find it’s nice for my sensitive skin. Worry about chemicals/actives and stuff like retinol after you’ve got your cleanse/moisturiser/spf routine down first.

    – Exfoliating is something you should probably do too. There’s physical and chemical exfoliation but you’ll need to be careful with chemical exfoliation. Maybe give physical exfoliants a go first, stuff like St.Ives scrubs are physical exfoliants. Side note: there’s a lot of fuss about st.ives because of some class action lawsuit about the scrub causing microtears but tbh so many class actions are full of shit. I use Dr.G’s brighting peeling gel because it’s a gentle exfoliator I can use more often with my retinol (which also works as a chemical exfoliant as well as for anti ageing).

    – if you wanna check out skincare subs check out skincareaddiction, asianbeauty, and Ausskinscare (if you’re aussie! If not, I think skincareaddiction is the default sub americans flock to)

    – also, if you’re looking to start using skincare when you haven’t in the past I recommend introducing one new product at a time for a couple of weeks. This is so if you suddenly start breaking out you’ll be able to figure out what product actually caused it rather then guessing blindly.
