Doesn’t have to be a religious following or anything like that just casually still enjoy the medium.

Myself, I fell out of the scene for a quite a bit until recently when I fell back in love with cowboy bebop and discovered that Dragonball super was a thing (as ridiculous and over the top as it is)

I think it’s mainly a nostalgia thing for me as I mainly just occasionally stay up to date with some of the old school ones I used to watch religiously as a teen growing up. Did find my hero academia and jujutsu kaizen fairly enjoyable as well-at least the little I’ve seen so far-as they seem to take a lost of inspiration from the old school ones that I used to love so much back in the day.

I admit most anime is immature and is obviously targeted for a younger audience, but sometimes that’s exactly what I need. With the daily grind of working, gym, taking care of the house/family it just helps to have an anchor back to the past. Kind of helps keep the child alive in the heart I guess when most everything is just work work work.

  1. Occasionally, yeah. There’s anime out there made for a somewhat older audience too, FWIW. I’ve really been enjoying Mushishi lately.

  2. I do. I like it.

I like some sports anime – Haikyuu, Kuroko no Baske, and the cycling one, Yowamushi Pedal or something like that – but I’m also into stuff like Initial D and the current continuation, MF Ghost. I’ll also watch one-offs like Samurai Champloo or One Punch Man that don’t have multiple seasons.

It’s not something I do constantly, but I do like anime; I love the art style and I’m a sucker for anything animated just because I think it’s beautiful. So yeah, sometimes it’s in my lineup.

  3. Sometimes when a really great one comes along I’ll go back – Frieren recently was a good example.

  4. Just the good ones, the ones doing something interesting (demon slayer for the art or JJK for the brutality), or the cerebral ones. I used to watch anything within a genre and now I’m more picky with my time. My husband’s even more selective than I am of the ones he’s interested in watching, typically I watch 3 episodes, flag it to him to give it two, then he’ll let me know if he wants to watch them with me. This year, we’ve watched Odd Taxi, Frieren, JJK, and Heavenly Delusion.

Edit: also misread this was askwomenover30, but those are the ones my husband has watched with me either way.

  5. I loved it in highschool and college, but fell out of it after having kids (mostly because I never sit down just to watch TV anymore). But recently I’ve been watching a few shows with my daughter like Spy x Family, Komi, and Little Witch Academia. It’s nice getting back into it.

  6. I’m currently watching One Piece. One of the best decisions of my life.

Anime is great I watch and have watched a fair amount.

But not enough to be an anime guy

  7. Last one i watched was castlevania. Everything these days is childish fan service with borderline pedo characters. Not my thing anymore

  8. Anime is not immature. I probably have seen Naruto Shippuden a billion times. I enjoy anime.

  9. I watch anime frequently. Sometimes it’s something newer like Solo Leveling or something more nostalgic like Flame of Recca or Gundam Wing. I’d much rather watch anime than whatever the popular drivel is at the time.

  10. I’m 41 now and still watch at least an episode a week of something. And I’ve a long list of things in my crunchyroll queue I just barely have time to work on.

  11. Not everything you consume media wise has to be overly mature. I watch some anime but not a ton. I’d have a hard time starting something like Naruto or One Piece now given the sheer amount of episodes, but shorter series are great! I tend to pick up a series, whether it’s a rewatch or a new one, then bounce back to other types of shows. If it’s a rewatch I’ll often have it be more like background noise while I’m doing something else.

  12. I do but I mainly stick to movies/shows from the 1980s to early 2000s and Studio Ghibli movies. I just can’t get into many modern shows and I prefer the older animation styles.

  13. I watch the series I’ve been following and make a concerted effort every so often to catch up with One Piece.

  14. I stopped through most of my 20s and picked it back up a few years ago. The last year I have been alot more and loosely getting into manga

  15. Just started watching ‘ninja kamui’ and it’s fucking wild. Basically modern ninja fiction without leaning TOO much into the cyberpunk realm- at least not yet(didn’t finish it).

But the action scenes are genuinely one of the best I’ve ever seen- I never said “holy shit!” to the TV so much in my life. The violence is astounding. Also the costume/character design is delicious. Yeah, seriously loving this show right now.

  16. Rewatched Evangelion like a month ago, it was great!

Sadly I don’t have that much time to spend it on watching anime though.

  17. I’ve become very picky with what anime I follow.

I think the biggest trope that kills a series for me is when they rush to explain things that don’t need explanations or the perspective swaps are jarring.

For 2023, I think my top 4 are Frieren (slow pace and nostaligia), Bocchi the Rock (Struggles of an introvert), Overtake! (touches on F4 without going into fantasy land.), and Link Click (unique premise, and touching)

I couldn’t get into JJK (idk why) or Demon Slayer (too much extrapolation). Most Isekais feel like they have too much nonsense going on, or are too focused on pretending to be some sort of video game where the MC is some amazing gamer that can break the rules of the game any time they feel like it.

  18. I never stopped. It helped I was never a huge anime fan to begin with and my preferred shows largely not being mainstream, but I’ll watch any anime I think looks like I’d have a good time with it

  19. I still do sometimes. My son is 10 now, so we’ve watched a few together (Pokemon when he was younger, Dragonball Z & Super as he got older, Slayers was one of my faves back in the day and we’ve watched that together too).

A lot of the newer stuff doesn’t really resonate with me any more. I’ve tried a handful of newer shows and they often feel alienating because they’re so clearly geared at high school-aged kids. Still, I’ve found a few good ones. My Hero Academia was fun. Attack on Titan was badass (please don’t spoil the ending, I haven’t finished the whole thing yet). And I’m not really sure why, but I really like Fairy Tail even though it has its flaws. I’ve been watching that one since it first released over 12 years ago and there are still more episodes planned.

  20. *Grimm’s Fairy Tale Classics* which aired on Nickelodeon in late 80s/early 90s is the only anime I watch, for the nostalgia.

  21. I pretty much watch nothing but anime because it’s like comfort food for my brain… I can just turn in on and turn off the brain. When you spend the day managing and trying to understand complex topics and scrutinizing details, just sitting back and watching “trash” is stress relief. My wife watches trashy kdramas for this purpose.

SpyXFamily still remains one of my fav chill shows. This current season, I am watching a crapload of isekai but there’s no amazing standouts like Freiren last season. My current fav chill show is the Bartender update. Watching cocktails while drinking cocktails.

If you like Akira Toriyama (he passed recently RIP) then give Sand Land a try.

I still watch the hyped shows like Fallout, Shogun, GoT, Last of Us, etcetc but those sometimes feel like more of an investment.

  22. I can’t wormhole and discover new/niche stuff like I used to. But when one of the popular/mainstream titles catches my attention, I watch. Demon slayer & JJK are examples of this. I’m hyped Bleach got a revival series. But I can’t bring myself to start one piece even though I know I’ll probably like it.

  23. I don’t search them out but work with quite a young crowd of guys and they assume I am cool, so I watch what they recommend to keep up with the conversations

  24. I watch anime when a good one drops. Mushoku tensi is what my wife and I currently watch on Hulu. It’s spectacular.

I read manga on my laptop every night before bed

  25. Constantly. I try to stay current on shows I enjoy, plus eventually watching ones I missed. I love sci-fi and fantasy, but also a good romance.

    **Currently watching:**
    *Delicious in Dungeon
    Konosuba S3
    Mushoku Tensei S2 (pt 2)
That Time I Got Reincarnated As A Slime S3
The Irregular at Magic High School S3*

    **Watching for the first time:**
    *Monster*

    **Rewatching**:
    *Asterisk War*

  26. It’s pretty much the only thing I watch. Much prefer animation to live actors.

It’s entirely possible to only consume it and not have it take over your life. Not one anime sticker on my car!

  27. I’m mainly on the same boat, I discovered Kobayashi Dragon Maid and Little Witch Academia a while back and I loved how comfy it they where.

Truly great anime can be just as good as any other medium, there’s nothing wrong with enjoying it.

  28. I’ve got a kid who loves anime so I watch it with him. I wasn’t into it growing up but I’ve loved bonding with him over the series we’ve watched together. I ended up really liking some of them. Most recently Frieren.

  29. I will start a new series on and off but never really finish them. I think it has more to do with my lack of tv watching in general. I did finish rewatching cowboy bebop and trigun not long ago.

I did, however, really get into reading the Berserk Mangas. I read through the entire series from start to finish last year and now my book shelf is 50 lbs heavier.

  30. I’m not an “anime fan” in that I don’t specifically seek out new anime to watch. But if something interesting comes along I’ll check it out.

Most recently I liked Cyberpunk Edgerunners, Dragonball Super, and Attack on Titan.

  31. *raises hand*

My taste in media has barely changed. There is just more of it now.

  32. I’ll watch Spirited Away every couple of years. That’s about it.

  33. Never been huge on anime but I love initial d and wangan midnight (yes I’m a car dude that has loved drifting since 03 when the signal drift twins showed up in the states).

So I’m currently watching MF Ghost.

  34. I’ve never understood anime. Most of my friends throughout my life have been very into it, and the only ones I liked were considered to be universally hated within the community. The ones everyone else liked, I didn’t understand at all.

Kill La Kill was hilarious, Gurren Lagann was a fun watch, Summer Wars was fantastic, and there’s one that I’m blanking on the name of that reminded me a lot of my childhood, and that I watched for that reason. I don’t remember much about it, but there was a small subplot with a headless biker chick who was dating a nerdy scientist, if that helps to narrow it down.

I’ve shown quite a few people Summer Wars as a ‘first date’ movie.

Other than those, I’ve never seen an anime I liked or really ‘got’.

I really, really liked Heavy Metal and the Ralph Bakshi movies, which aren’t anime but they’re heavily anime-inspired.

  35. There are plenty of animes that are very clever, interesting and mature. Like everything, if well chosen, it’s high quality entertainment, so of course I do watch it occasionally.
