I recently went to a children’s birthday party of my boyfriend’s friend. I was talking to one of his friends, and while chatting, the host of the party suddenly interjected and talked with him, and they both walked away from me. They didn’t even pardon themselves. It was incredibly rude. My boyfriend saw the whole thing and I looked back at him, and we looked puzzled. I didn’t want to make it a big deal at the party, because I am new to his friend group and it was a children’s party. Now that I think of it, I could have said something humorously sarcastic like “well, don’t mind me” and giggle, but I was so shocked that they did it, that I didn’t have a witty comeback in time. How would you have responded in that social situation?
