How good are the US-only restaurant or fast food chains?

For example, chains like Sonic, In-n-Out, Bojangles, etc. that don’t exist outside the US: how good are they, and are they any better or worse than global chains like McDonald’s and KFC? Are us non-Americans missing out on their goodness?
