As a Canadian, I’m always surprised how much higher salaries are in the U.S. and that includes for non-tech roles. The salary gap between Canada and the U.S. is quite high. When compared to European countries, the gap is even larger. U.K. salaries, for instance, are shockingly low (not sure what is going on there).

I think that is one of the main reasons why many Canadians move south of the border. There are approximately 1 million Canadians that live in the U.S.

Why are salaries generally higher in America? And how can companies afford to offer high salaries without affecting the bottom line?
