I know masculinity is a very general concept and men can vary quite a bit while still being considered “masculine”. That having been said, I feel there are “categories” of masculine men that I see appear regularly.

I obviously know that movies aren’t real life, but, I feel they portray examples of the categorization I’ve seen in real life (often in the extreme). So, as a classic example of what I’m talking about, in The Godfather Michael and Sonny are very different people. But, while flawed, I don’t think anyone would argue either of them isn’t masculine.

So, I ask you, what different types of “archetypes of masculinity” have you witnessed in your life? How would a man, say one in his mid twenties trying to develop his masculinity, cultivate each of these?
