Been to Wisconsin, Illnois and Michigan.
Got a couple of reccomendations for New York and California, but I wanted to hear what locals have to say.

  1. Texas, California, Florida and New York I think are the big 4 that are absolute must-sees for all foreigners.

  2. What are you into? What do you like doing when you visit a place? What were your favorite vacations in the past?

  3. Depends on what you want. I wouldn’t recommend NH or ME for city stuff.

CA probably has the best mix of both.

But there is no “one state” that everyone should visit because it is entirely up to what you like.

Say you like spelunking, I’m recommending KY or IN. Not Florida.

Say you want big cities. I’m not recommending Vermont.

    Lakes? Probably Minnesota or Michigan.

Sandy beaches? Hawaii, California, Oregon, Georgia, South Carolina or Florida.

    History? DC, Massachusetts.

    Skiing? CO or Utah.

Small farms and quaint small towns with lots of little festivals? Maine, New Hampshire, or Vermont.

    Entirely depends. No one answer.

  4. Virginia. Depending on your mood, you can go up to DC and hit the world-class museums and zoo, you can go west for beautiful caverns and landscapes, you have great amusement parks like King’s Dominion and Busch Gardens, and there’s fascinating history hidden everywhere (and not-so-hidden in many towns like Williamsburg).

  5. The West Coast, Washington, Oregon and California is beautiful and can be a great adventure if you wanted to spend time driving it. More Oregon and California but places like Long Beach in Washington are really nice.

  6. Not a state, but the District of Columbia (Washington DC). Unique museums (the Smithsonians) you cannot find elsewhere, a very unique city relative to other American cities, rich in history by US timeline standards, etc. Just stay away in July — it is HOT.

  7. Not necessarily a state, but I feel like everyone should see the Rocky Mountains in their lifetime

  8. You said you like biking, so I am going to throw a curve at you, Missouri has the [https://bikekatytrail.com](https://bikekatytrail.com) it runs from St. Louis to Kansas City along the Missouri River.

  9. California is a great one. You can swim in the ocean, drive through the desert, go on a forest hike, and go play in the snow all in one day if you map it out right.

  10. It depends what you’re interested in, tbh.

NY and CA are the obvious “must sees”. If you want to know more about American history, Boston, Philadelphia, and DC along with NYC are great choices. If you want to be out in nature and see things you can’t wherever you are from, the Everglades, Grand Canyon, and the Redwood/Sequoias come immediately to mind, but there are many beautiful parts of this country.

Plenty of great cities for food and music and culture. Just about every state has something to offer that is special in that regard.

I would also suggest driving through part of the US, just to get a handle on how big and how diverse it is. Everything from topography to regional accents to customs to food can be very different.

  11. South Carolina and Arizona.

Sedona in Arizona is such a unique beautiful and peaceful place. Great hiking and delicious Sonoran food. I love the vibe there.

South Carolina is my favorite state. It’s very pretty. I love Charleston for the food (my God, the food!!) and the history. Isle of Palms is a nice, quiet beach area. Hilton Head is nice too, with great golfing, but it’s pretty crowded and touristy.

  12. It really depends what you’re into. Based on where you’ve visited, I would recommend one of the desert states like New Mexico, Arizona, Nevada, or Utah. They have completely different landscapes from the Midwest, and the food and culture are also noticeably different. There are also some cool cities in the region too. Personally, I really like Santa Fe, NM.

  13. If you want to know why they call it America the beautiful, you need to visit one of the Northwest parks, like North Cascades, Yellowstone or Yosemite. That is what America has to offer. Being there in person will change your life.

  14. I may be bias as a Puerto Rican and it’s not technically a state. However the island is gorgeous with an amazing history, architect, and sights. If anyone who sees this comment does go just please be nice to the island as it has been going through a lot lately.

  15. Alaska, bar none. Its a place everyone should experience at least once once in their life.

  16. No one seems to mention Georgia. Is it that boring? From its borders with Jacksonville to the deepest Northern part?

  17. Wyoming. You’ll be one of the only people wherever you’re from to have been to Wyoming!

  18. Washington DC, federal district with all the monuments and museums -not- SE and definitely don’t go walking down MLK Blvd. Boston/Concord Massachusetts. The Airborne/ Special Forces museum at Ft Bragg NC. Hershey PA. Dallas/San Antonio Texas. NOLA.

  19. Arizona! Grand Canyon, Sedona/Prescott/Cottonwood, lots of restaurants in Phoenix. Havasupai Falls.

  20. TEXAS, and particularly Houston. Houston is probably the best representation of the U.S. we have, and is also a good bellwether for our future
