I have a visual disability resulting from a traumatic brain injury I suffered as a small child. The biggest functional impacts of this are that I have reduced vision in both eyes, I cannot drive a car, and my eyes naturally shift left so I cannot make eye contact and struggle to look at a camera in photos.

Does anyone have any advice on how to handle this on Hinge or just in general for dating?

I have had some bad experiences with it and dating in the passed so my current strategy is to not tell someone about it until they’ve met me in Person. I prefer that people get to know me before I tell them so they don’t form any false conclusions based off of the “I have a visual disability” line. I’ve accomplished a hell of a lot in my life despite my eyesight and I don’t want people to think it defines me.

However, in the pictures on my profile, you can tell I’m not looking at the camera. Additionally, on a first date, I can’t make eye contact and it looks like I’m not looking at the person. So, I’m debating putting something on my profile about it but, am honestly a bit nervous about it.

Any advice would be much appreciated! I hate to admit it but, it’s a bit of an insecurity that I’m still trying to work through.
