For those who don’t know, a [smart city](en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Smart city) is a city that uses high tech solutions to improve the quality of life of its citizens, foster sustainable development and manage resources effectively. A common example of “smart” urban policies are bike sharing apps or new energy-efficient neighbourhoods.

  1. None? I’m sure there are specific examples to point to but most cities feel relatively the same in that regard relative to cities of similar sizes. Like I lived in Austin which is becoming a tech hub. You’d think that’d mean they’d be any better than other non tech driven cities, but it’s pretty much the same as the metro I live in now… or if there are it’s going to be somewhere like New York City

  2. That’s not really a buzz word I’ve heard applied to cities in the US.

I’m sure that if you go looking you can find hi tech initiatives under different names, but you’ll have to go digging.

  3. Seattle seems pretty smart due to all the tech companies that have improved our lives in general. However you could also argue that some politicians there are terrible and not smart. Allowing rampant homelessness, having a neutered police force, and having goofy zoning laws. Still love the pnw, I’m originally from there..

I’m not sure if there is one completely smart city…,
