Alternative ladies, what’s been your favorite reaction to someone seeing your tattoos, piercings, hair, etc?

  1. When I was in high school, I looked like your stereotypical goth. I went with my then boyfriend to a Slayer concert and there was a woman there who was a photographer for a magazine. When she saw me, she literally said “you look so cool, do you mind if I take a picture of you?”

  2. Walked on the bus and heard “mommy mommy, she has purple hair, so cool” highlight of my life

  3. They’re shocked I have big pieces and a septum that are all hidden most of the time because I don’t seem the type to have them.

  4. When someone saw my piercings and said, “Are you a metal detector’s worst nightmare or best friend?”

  5. Little girl at the library, probably three years old: “I asked my mom if I could have hair like yours, and she said no.” I had a mohawk.

  6. nothing specifically stands out, but i love when people comment on them kindly 🙂 specifically other tattooed people!

  7. When I worked at Walmart an older guy came through the check out line and asked what my “ghost girl” tatt meant and I said it’s a song by lil peep. He said he was gonna go home and listen to it. It made my day better for sure. Lol he prob wasn’t a fan but it’s the thought that counts 😂👏

  8. I have both my kids feet tattooed on my back shoulder, and I get a lot of … It looks like somebody walked on your back .

  9. All my nieces ended up dyeing their hair pink after I did.

    I was SO flattered

  10. I’m not alt or goth but I went out one day with my piercings in and my makeup was looking alt that day( including black lipstick) along with my clothes. I had to do some quick shopping in a grocery store for a few things and as I passed someone their jaw dropped and stared at me as I passed by them. Their mouth was literally wide open like they was speechless or something idk. I thought they was looking at something else at first but no, they was looking at me the whole time and even when I passed them. I made a small smile and kept going, I don’t like people staring at me so it weirded me out at first 😅

Someone also had complimented me that day! ❤️

  11. I have tons of tattoos and I catch little girls staring at my legs and arms in awe sometimes. It’s really magical for me, for them to bear witness the kind of autonomy they can have should they desire it.

  12. I have a smiley piercing and work with the criminal/inmate population. Most of the time they come into my office acting “hard” (it’s just nerves and I fully understand that) and they usually give a big “Oh wtf is that. Your gums are pierced wtf” type of reaction. Love it.

Most of my tattoos are ‘hidden’ but have some small ones visible. Going into a tattoo shop and getting “but how do you sit” and showing them my blacked out bellybutton always feels like a flex

  13. I was REALLY hungover and covered in glitter following a wild night in college and a little girl at the grocery store asked her mom how a mermaid got into the frozen section lol

  14. Got my hair cut very short in college. My art teacher nicknamed me Eighties

  15. I have a full arm of animal tattoos and during short sleeve weather I get complimented on them multiple times a week- by everyone from the nurse at my kids doctors office to random strangers to the pharmacy tech at cvs. It makes me so happy and I love telling my tattoo artist about it because she did that!

  16. Whenever I see someone outside of work or uni, they’re always shocked by my piercings and tattoos since culturally it’s very frowned upon (I am Japanese)

Other than shock reactions, my niece reacts the best. She always tries to hang Christmas ornaments through my piercings for the holidays, it’s one of the cutest traditions~~
