“See if I can” or “See if I can’t”?

Do Americans say "See if I can't"? As in "Lets see if I can't catch a fish"
I've been watching Outdoor Boys a lot and he sounds like he says "see if I can't", when I would've said "see if I can". Is it an American thing or is it just me mishearing because of the accent?
