People at the gym who are social butterflies: how do you interact with them?

There's a few I don't mind, especially if they don't talk at you. There's one person who's VGL and I get nervous around them. I'm sure they don't like me as I like them though but it does seem they are trying to actually make friends rather than socialize for the hell of it.
