Are throat numbing sprays worth trying

Hi everyone I [F18] and my bf [M18] have recently started messing around and 1 thing my bf was eager to try was blow jobs. I've tried it a couple of times and found I have a very strong gag reflex which made the whole experience really unpleasant. I've done a bit of research and found throat numbing sprays and was wondering if anyone had experience with them and if it helped at all or if they are a waste of time
