Every time I see Brits online reacting in horror to the idea of microwaving a mug of water, the most common reason I've seen them give is that it's wildly dangerous, because it'll superheat the water and make it explode.

I've been microwaving water (for instant coffee when I'm lazy, tea when I'm sick, or hot chocolate when I'm feeling nostalgic) for probably 20 years and never had it explode on me. Stick a mug of water in the microwave, about two minutes later it's slightly bubbling and I take it out.

So it got me wondering – has anyone here actually exploded water this way?
