Hello, kind of new to reddit posting so sorry if this is not the correct sub reddit for this.

I read this somewhere and It really made me think cause this is the case with new people I meet: "A lot of folks don’t talk not because they don’t have any thoughts. But because they believe what they think isn’t worth saying out loud so they filter those before speaking."

I'm not socially awkward (now at least, I've been kind of shy as a kid) but only when I'm with/around people I'm comfortable with. Even if it's a few people I know and a lot of strangers I'm able to be myself but whenever I meet someone new alone let's say, especially if they're my parents age or just quite a bit older, I REALLY start filtering what I say, I stop being myself completely and turn into some extra polite uninteresting robot. Usually I'm very witty and energetic, I say whatever comes to my mind and have no problems saying "weird" and "politically incorrect" stuff.

Is there any way I could fix this like just be myself around new people that I'm not comfortable with?
