How do you handle it when random people tell you to "smile"?

For context, I was volunteering at a pride parade the other day, just hanging out with my fellow volunteers, monitoring the scene as the parade were about to begin. Out of nowhere, this somewhat elderly lady from one of the marching groups comes up to us, looks directly at me, "Hey young girl, you need to smile more… like these two lovely ladies" (pointing at my co-volunteers next to me) and then walks off. I felt totally singled out and just perplexed. Like, was she watching me the whole time to come to that conclusion? I was also wearing sunglasses at the time. In my head, I was like, "WTF?" but all I could do was smile back and acknowledge her comment. The whole situation just left a bad taste in my mouth.
