Why Do People Not Like Giving Socially Awkward People a Chance?

I rushed to join an organization that specializes in doing community service and making friendships at university, but I got rejected because my interview was awkward and the people interviewing me seemed disinterested in me. Why don't people like giving socially awkward people a chance? Apparently everyone gets into the organization and it's not selective at all.
