To everyone out there,
Please stop telling single people:
– that they cannot find love because they do not love themselves enough
– to just live your life and love will find you
– love will come when you least expect it
This is by far the most damaging advice I have been ever given. I spent years believing that I just did not love myself enough and there is secret super level of self-love that other people in relationships have that I could not quite reach. Then there’s the one where they make you seem desperate for wanting to date and meet people so they tell you to stop looking because love will find you when you are not looking for it.
Where the hell does the utter garbage come from? None of this is true for 99% of the people out there. Please just stop. It does really damage self esteem.
