Do I get him a birthday gift?

I (23F) have been seeing this guy (24M) for almost 3 months. We go on dates at least once a week and talk constantly. His birthday is coming up and I want to get him something. I love getting people gifts with thought into them. Since we aren’t official I obviously don’t plan on getting him something extravagant but I do want to get him a little something. I was thinking a nice cup for work with goodies in it? Is this even a good idea lol? Any input would help!
