Is the concept not a bit sexist and outdated?

My perception is that becoming a high school cheerleader is quite a sought after activity for girls.

As a father of a 13 year old girl, I’d be a bit upset to think that her main extra curricular activity was essentially trying to look hot and dancing around cheering on the boys in their pursuit of sporting success, rather than seeking her own.

Have I got the wrong perception? What are your views?
